About Rodents and Mice
The most common rodents in the Western Cape are mice and rats. During winter months the rodent problem escalates because rodents seek food and shelter against the cold in homes and stores. They can enter your home through any crack or opening. Once they are there, an infestation can develop very rapidly, since one female rat can have more than 100 babies in a year. Within two months these little baby rats are mature and ready to reproduce in turn. And so on, and so forth…
Apart from the mess they make and the stuff they damage, rats carry dangerous diseases which they can transfer directly to humans. Diseases such as Weils disease, Salmonella infection, Rat Bite Fever, the Bubonic plague, Murine Typhus, etc. Not advisable for a healthy and disease free environment.
Mouse diseases can be spread to people through contact with mouse droppings, their saliva or urine, or even mouse bites. These disease can also be spread indirectly through ticks, fleas and mites which have fed on and infected mouse.

Signs of infestation
- You will notice rodent droppings here and there.
There may be gnawing marks on wood, electrical wires, plastics, etc. - You will hear scuttling noises on ceilings which can become rather loud.
- If the population is already large, you will notice the smell of rodent urine.
